They did not yearn to be heroes
On June 6, 1944, Allied forces invaded Nazi-occupied France as part of the largest land, air and sea assault in history.

Of the thousands who fought, the Bedford area is believed to have sustained the most D-Day losses per capita of any U.S. community. Nineteen men from the town and surrounding county died in the first wave of the invasion on the beaches of Normandy.

The National D-Day Memorial in Bedford honors the 4,400 American and Allied heroes who gave their lives that day. Read more.
