Singing Valentines

Smith Mountain Lake Harmeneers tenor J.T. Ward, lead Dick Murphy and baritone Walter Barnes (left to right) sing their vocal warm ups in Barnes' car in between two singing valentine performances at opposite ends of Franklin County on Feb. 13.

Walter Barnes greets and Laura Sexton, an art teacher at the Center for Applied Technology and Career Exploration in Rocky Mount. She was shocked to receive a singing valentine from the group that morning in her classroom. Her husband sent her the singing greeting.

Ward, Murphy, Floyd Ferguson and Barnes (left to right) then gather around to sing to Sexton.

Barbara Lenco heartily applauds after the gift brings tears to her eyes.

Burnt Chimney Elementary School fourth-grade teacher Jeffrey Bradshaw laughs while the barbershop quartet deliver a valentine from his wife.
