Here are highway and street projects scheduled this week by the Virginia Department of Transportation and area localities. Dates are subject to change because of weather and contractors' schedules.

U.S. 221: Turn lanes are being added to southbound U.S. 221 at its intersection with Virginia 671 (Centerville Road). Construction may cause lane closures during the daylight hours. Watch for signs and flaggers. Estimated completion is mid-June.
Virginia 24: Signs will be replaced along Virginia 24, weather permitting. Watch for equipment along the roadway and possible lane closures.
Secondary Road Mowing: Weather permitting, grass may be mowed along various secondary roads near Big Island and Smith Mountain Lake. Watch for equipment along the roadway and possible lane closures.
Virginia 600: The bridge over Peters Creek Road (Virginia 600) will be repaired. Virginia 600 will be closed to through traffic. The bridge is located two miles from Virginia 122 and one mile from Virginia 501. Motorists will need to seek alternate routes. Estimated completion is Friday, June 25.

U.S. 221: Turn lane construction on southbound U.S. 221 at its intersection with Virginia 668 (Goode Station Road) may cause lane closures during daytime hours. Signs and flaggers will be in place to direct traffic. Estimated completion is mid-June.
Virginia 43: Crews will patch pavement on Virginia 43 near Smith Mountain Lake. Flaggers will direct traffic at times during daylight hours.
Botetourt County
Secondary Road Sealing: Weather permitting, surface treatment will be performed on secondary roads in the Troutville and Blue Ridge areas. Work will be performed during daylight hours. Flaggers will control traffic.
Carroll County
Interstate 77: Weather permitting, lane closures may occur on northbound or southbound Interstate 77 between mile markers 0 and 24 for pavement marking during daylight hours.
Interstate 77: Bridge repairs on I-77 may cause lane closures Monday through Thursday during daylight hours at the following locations: northbound and southbound bridges over Virginia 620 near exit 1; northbound bridge over Virginia 148 near exit 8; and southbound bridge over Virginia 702 near mile marker 12.
Interstate 77: Weather permitting, lane closures will be in place on southbound I-77 between mile markers 6 and 4 for pavement patching. Expect lane closures Monday through Thursday during daylight hours.
Interstate 77: Weather permitting, lane closures may be in place on southbound I-77 for pavement resurfacing between mile markers 24 and 22. Lane closures may be in place Monday through Thursday during daylight hours.
Craig County
No closings at this time.
Floyd County
U.S. 221: Work is under way to repair the U.S. 221 bridge over Beaver Dam Creek. The bridge is located approximately 0.5 mile from Virginia 668. Traffic across the bridge is reduced to one lane, and a temporary signal is installed to control traffic. The speed limit is reduced to 25 mph. Estimated completion is summer.
Virginia 8: Work to replace the Virginia 8 bridge over Dodd's Creek is under way. The bridge is located about 1.6 miles south of Floyd. Traffic across the bridge is reduced to one lane, and a temporary signal is installed to control traffic. Estimated completion is fall.
Franklin County
Virginia 684: Weather permitting, spot paving will be performed near Boones Mill on Virginia 684 (Boones Mill Road) between Virginia 116 and U.S. 220. Spot paving may cause short-term lane closures during daylight hours. Work may be performed on Wednesday, June 16 and Thursday, June 17. Flaggers will direct traffic. Drivers should expect some delays and use caution.
Giles County
U.S. 460: Weather permitting, lane closures may occur on U.S. 460 between Pembroke and Virginia 613 during daylight hours for pavement marking. Work should be completed by late June.
Henry County
Virginia 674: Work is under way west of Bassett to improve about two miles of Virginia 674 (Trent Hille Drive) between Virginia 57 and Virginia 666. Flaggers may direct traffic during daylight hours. Motorists can expect some delays. Estimated completion is spring 2005.
Montgomery County
Secondary Road Shoulder Work: Weather permitting, lane closures may be in place during daylight hours for shoulder repairs on various secondary roads in the Ellett Valley. Flaggers will direct traffic at times.
Virginia 114: The westbound bridge near the Radford Arsenal between Christiansburg and Radford over the New River on Virginia 114 (Peppers Ferry Road) is closed. Traffic has been diverted onto the eastbound bridge where traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction. No date for reopening the bridge has been established.
U.S. 460 Bypass: Light poles will be installed along the U.S. 460 Blacksburg interchange. Occasional short-term shoulder or lane closures will occur between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Estimated completion is mid-summer.
Patrick County
Virginia 614: Due to blasting operations, Virginia 614 is currently closed to through traffic until late June. Signs are in place to advise motorists of a detour.
Work is under way to improve the section of Virginia 614 (Squirrel Spur Road) that starts one mile north of Virginia 631 and extends about 2.5 miles north. Flaggers may control traffic at times, and motorists should use caution in the work zone. Estimated completion is summer 2005.
Pulaski County
Virginia 672: VDOT is repairing the Virginia 672 bridge near Shiloh over Claytor Lake. Temporary traffic signals are installed on the bridge to control traffic. Work is expected to be completed this summer.
Virginia 100: Paving is completed. Pavement markings will be painted when weather and schedule allow.
Virginia 654: Weather permitting, paving on various sections of Virginia 654 may cause delays. Watch for work zones and flaggers.
Secondary Roads: Various secondary roads will be surface treated. Motorists should watch for signs and use caution in these work zones. Estimated completion is mid-May.
Roanoke
No closings at this time.
Roanoke County
Virginia 311: Nighttime lane closures will be in place on Virginia 311 for paving, if weather permits. The northbound and southbound lanes of Virginia 311 between Madison Heights Drive and Salem will be paved. Work will be performed between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday. Esimated completion is June 17.
Hunting Hills Drive: Paving will be performed during daylight house on Hunting Hills Drive between U.S. 220 and Starkey Road. Paving will cause some delays each day starting around 8 a.m. Paving may be performed on Saturday, June 12. Work is expected to be completed by Tuesday, June 15.
Interstate 581: Shoulder closures will be in place on northbound and southbound Interstate 581 at exit 4 (Peters Creek Road) for sign foundation installation. Work will be performed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Estimated completion is late June.
Rockbridge County
No closings at this time.
Salem
U.S. 460 (East Main Street): Crews are working on widening East Main Street from Kessler Mill Road to just east of Virginia 419. Motorists should expect changing traffic patterns and periodic lane closures in this work zone. Traffic across the bridge over Mason Creek is shifted into the westbound lane. One lane of traffic remains open in each direction across the bridge. A lane closure is in place on westbound East Main Street between Hillmont Drive and Dalewood Avenue. Drivers cannot make left turns from eastbound East Main Street onto Lakehurst Avenue. Lakehurst Avenue traffic can use Virginia 419. Estimated completion is summer 2005.
Virginia 419: Nighttime lane closures will be in place on Virginia 419 in between East Main Street and Green Ridge Road for storm drain installation. Work will be performed between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. Estimated completion is late May.
